What a static VPN-comparison site does and doesn't collect — in plain terms.
TunnelClash is a static informational website about VPNs. This page explains, in plain terms, what data is and isn't collected when you visit. Last updated 9 October 2026.
What we collect
The site itself sets no advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. Standard server logs may record your IP address, browser type and the pages you request, as almost all web servers do, for security and aggregate traffic analysis. We said we'd name an analytics provider here if we ever added one. We have: it's Google Analytics 4, detailed below.
Google Analytics
To see which comparisons get read, TunnelClash uses Google Analytics 4, run by Google LLC and Google Ireland Ltd. It measures the pages you view, the site that referred you, your approximate location to city or country level, your device and browser type, and session timing. Google Analytics 4 does not log or store IP addresses. We keep advertising features, Google signals and ad personalisation off, which means none of this data feeds advertising — and none of it is sold.
How it switches on depends on where you are. In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, a banner asks first and nothing is sent to Google unless you click Accept. Everywhere else analytics is on by default, with an off switch you can use at any time, and a browser sending Global Privacy Control is treated as having opted out. GA4's first-party cookies, _ga and _ga_<ID>, last up to 2 years and are set only after analytics is allowed. We store your answer in your browser's local storage under the key analytics-consent rather than in a cookie.
To switch sides later, change your analytics choice. Google's privacy policy applies to its processing, and Google's opt-out browser add-on blocks Google Analytics everywhere.
Affiliate links
When you click an outbound link to a VPN provider, that provider (or its affiliate network) may set a cookie to attribute a resulting subscription to us. That process is controlled by the provider, not by TunnelClash, and is governed by their privacy policy. You can read how these links work on our affiliate disclosure page.
The newsletter
If you submit your email to our update list, we'll use it only to send occasional notes when a matchup changes — a new audit, a jurisdiction move, a price shift. We won't sell it, and you can unsubscribe at any time.
Your choices
You can browse without providing any personal information, block cookies in your browser, and opt out of the newsletter whenever you like. Questions about your data can go to [email protected].
